Can chiropractic help with weight loss?

Do you want to lose weight and think you’ve tried everything!?

You’ve tried eating right, exercising, crash/fad diets, cleansing, fat-burners, all with marginal results. Keep in mind that I’m not a registered dietitian, I’m just conveying what’s worked for me. I’m going to give you two more ideas to “chew on”. Pun intended!

First,cut out, or visciously limit simple sugars and processed foods! Let’s start with simple sugars. These are your “fast-acting” sugars, such as candy, soda, bread, pasta etc. Not only are these foods laden in empty calories, but they cause rapid insulin spikes, which cause the body to rush these sugar molecules into the fat cells! (extremesimplification, but you get the idea.) So, it’s not the sugar that causes the weight gain, it’s your bodies REACTION to it! Without insulin, it’s very hard to gain weight at all! Think of Type 1 diabetics. Next, limit highly processed foods that are laden with chemicals. Our bodies are very proficient in processing and eliminating these “toxins”, but even the most efficient machine can get “backed up” when we dump too much work on it for a prolonged time. This onslaught may cause the body to store “toxins” in our fat cells until it can catch up. The problem is, that might never happen without a lifestyle change! So to summarize, limit foods that cause insulin spikes and toxic overload. Secondly, get checked by your local chiropractor, REGARDLESS of symptoms. Here’s how chiropractic care could help you shed those unwanted pounds.

1. Having chronic pain will increase your cortisol levels and make it harder to lose weight. Being pain-free will allow you to feel better and thus focus more on leading a healthier lifestyle.

2. Having tight and painful muscles will limit your ability to exercise. By correcting your structure, your function well increase and your muscles will no longer be tight and sore. This will allow you to exercise at 100% of your potential.

3. What if the nerve flow to your digestive and eliminatory system is the decreased from a subluxation in your spine? That will decrease the function of your body to eliminate toxins, and thus store them in fat cells. A body ALWAYS functions better with a good nerve supply.

4. Sleep is very important to decrease stress, and rebuild after strenuous workouts. Many times it’s hard to get a good night’s sleep if you’re suffering with pain. Also a spinal misalignment in the upper neck region could cause disruption to the sleep centers that reside in the brainstem. This could cause a problem with getting into REM sleep where muscle growth and rebuilding occurs. Corrective chiropractic care could ease the pressure on this area, thus allowing you to achieve a good nights sleep and reap the benefits.
